What does a check-up at Sardinia House cost?+
Your first assessment is £125; routine health checks after that are £110. X-rays, if needed, are £30 each. Any treatment recommended is quoted in writing before it starts.
How often should I have a check-up?+
For most adults, every six to twelve months. We suggest an interval based on what we see at your appointment: a healthy, stable mouth can wait longer, while gum disease or active decay usually calls for closer attention.
Does a check-up hurt?+
No. A check-up is looking, scanning and gentle probing of the gums, which can feel odd but should not be painful. If a tooth is tender we will say so before we touch it.
What does the digital scan involve?+
A small wand is moved around your teeth for a few minutes and builds a 3D model on screen as it goes. There is no putty and nothing to bite down on. The scan is stored so that we can compare it with future visits.
Do you treat NHS patients?+
No. Sardinia House is a private practice, and has been for 45 years. Fees are published as guide prices and confirmed in writing after your assessment.
Can I see the hygienist on the same day?+
Usually, yes, if you let us know when you book. Many patients pair their check-up with a hygiene appointment so that both are dealt with in one visit to Lincoln's Inn Fields.
I work near Holborn. Can I come in a lunch hour?+
A routine check takes around half an hour, and we are around five minutes from Holborn station on foot. We also open from 8am on most mornings and until 7.30pm on Wednesdays for appointments outside working hours.
How long does a check-up take, and what happens?+
Allow around 30 to 40 minutes. The visit begins with a conversation about anything that concerns you, then a digital scan of your teeth that appears on the screen beside you, followed by an examination of the teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues of the mouth. X-rays are taken only where they add something, and you leave with a written plan if anything needs doing.
Does the check-up include a scale and polish?+
No. The check-up is the examination; cleaning is a separate hygienist appointment, from £100, which can usually be booked on the same day. Keeping the two apart means each gets the time it deserves and the hygienist can work from the dentist's findings.
