Each piece of equipment at Sardinia House had to answer one question before it was bought: does it make the diagnosis clearer, the plan more certain or the visit shorter? Almost everything is in the building, so a plan made on screen is carried out in the same visit, and when a restoration needs a master ceramist's hand, a provisional made on site means wherever we can, you do not leave without a tooth.
iTero™ and Primescan
Every surgery has its own intra-oral scanner and every appointment begins with a scan. Within minutes your teeth are on screen as a three-dimensional model and the consultation becomes a conversation about something you can both see. iTero can simulate an Invisalign® result at the first visit and compare wear from one year to the next; Primescan records the fine detail from which a same-day crown is milled.
CBCT 3D imaging
Cone beam CT captures teeth, roots, nerves and bone as a single three-dimensional model in a few seconds at a low dose. Guided implants and guided endodontics are planned from it, wisdom teeth are assessed on it, and the problems that hide on a flat X-ray show up on it. Because the scanner is here, nothing waits for a hospital appointment.
CEREC milling
A CEREC unit cuts a crown, onlay or veneer from a block of ceramic during your appointment, and your dentist stains, glazes and fits it before you leave. For front teeth that call for an artist's hand we work instead with master ceramists in the UK and abroad, and you wear a provisional made on site in the meantime. Wherever we can, you do not leave without a tooth.
SprintRay 3D printers
Surgical guides for implants, endodontic guides for calcified canals, study models, trial smiles, provisional teeth and retainers are printed in the building. A guide means an implant goes where it was planned on screen; a printed provisional means a broken tooth can be replaced the same day while the final one is made.
Operating microscopes
Zeiss and CJ-Optik microscopes bring magnification and light to work that is otherwise done by feel. A canal thinner than a millimetre can be found, cleaned and sealed with confidence, and a hairline fracture that no X-ray will show becomes plain to see. Every root canal treatment Dr Spencer Richman carries out is done under the microscope.
Digital Smile Design
Photographs, video and your scan are combined into a design of your new smile that you see in your own face. Proportions are tested against your lips and features, not a chart. A trial smile can then be placed over your teeth for an afternoon, so the decision is made with evidence rather than imagination.
EMS Airflow and Guided Biofilm Therapy
Our hygienists use the Swiss EMS Airflow system rather than the scraper most people dread. First a dye shows up the plaque you cannot see, so you know exactly where to aim at home. A jet of warmed water and fine powder then clears plaque and staining from each surface, around implants and brackets and beneath the gum edge, with almost no scraping and much less sensitivity. Most patients say it is the most comfortable and thorough clean they have had.
