What happens at my first appointment, and how long does it take?+
Your first visit begins with a conversation about what has brought you in, then a three-dimensional scan of your teeth that appears on the screen beside you, followed by an examination of your teeth, gums, bite and the soft tissues of the mouth. X-rays are taken only where they add something. Allow up to an hour, and you leave with a written plan setting out any treatment and its exact cost.
How much is a first appointment at Sardinia House?+
A new patient assessment costs £125, and X-rays are £30 each if your dentist needs them. A hygiene visit is booked separately, from £100. LSE staff and students pay from £50 with a valid ID.
What should I bring to my first visit?+
A list of any medicines you take, the name of your previous practice if you would like us to request your records, and your dental plan or insurance details if you have them. Any recent X-rays can spare you repeating them. If you are an LSE member of staff or student, bring your LSE ID for the discount.
Is there a registration process or joining fee?+
No. Booking your first appointment is all it takes. There is no list to join and nothing to pay beyond the appointment itself.
Can I see a hygienist directly?+
Yes. Vaida and Sarah, our hygienists and therapists, take bookings directly, online or through the front desk, without a dentist's appointment first.
I am nervous about the dentist. What can you do to help?+
Tell us when you book, and the appointment will be shaped around it. A first visit can be a scan and a conversation only, with nothing done until you are ready, and we explain each step before it happens. For treatment, IV conscious sedation with Dr Damien Reilly, our dental sedationist, is available and is discussed at your consultation.
It has been a long time since my last check-up. Will that be a problem?+
It will not, and nobody here will make you feel bad about it. We start from where you are. If nerves are what kept you away, sedation with Dr Damien Reilly is available for treatment.
Is the practice accessible by lift, and is it step-free?+
Yes. Sardinia House in Holborn is on the 4th floor and is reached by lift, with step-free access from the street. The entrance is on Sardinia Street, off the south-west corner of Lincoln's Inn Fields, around five minutes on foot from Holborn station.
What are your opening hours, and what if I need help out of hours?+
We are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am to 5.30pm, Wednesday 8am to 7.30pm and Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, and closed at weekends. Out of hours, call or WhatsApp 020 7404 8600 and we will respond when the practice opens. If we are closed and the problem cannot wait, contact NHS 111.
Can I transfer X-rays or notes from another practice?+
Please do. Recent X-rays can spare you repeating them. Your previous practice can email them to you, or directly to us with your permission.
Are you accepting new patients in Holborn?+
We are. New patients are welcome at Sardinia House, and urgent problems can usually be seen the same day.
